Intestinal Parasites – Why an intestinal parasite exam as part of my pet’s prevention routine?
It’s simple, intestinal parasites can be life threatening to your pet and can even be spread to you and your family.
Intestinal parasite tests are recommended every 6 months to check for many forms of parasites that are undetectable by the human eye. These intestinal parasites can cause diarrhea, malnutrition, cause damage to their intestinal tract, anemia, and can even be fatal.
Due to there being many forms of intestinal parasites, the intestinal parasite exam will help our doctors know exactly which medicine to give if the test were to be positive. It will also help in which prevention to prescribe for the parasites that may be common in your area.
Heartworm combination tests are an important part of your dog’s regular health care because they detect a serious and life threatening parasite. Heartworms are spread by an infected mosquito that you’re your dog causing major problems to their health. Our heartworm 4dx test not only detects heartworms, but also 3 different tick borne diseases that are commonly found in our area.
The faster we are able to diagnose your dog, the better chance we have of being able to treat the problem. Heartworms can be treated; however, treatment is very expensive, hard on your dog and even you.
Heartworm disease in cats is very rare and at this time there is no cure for heartworm disease in cats. However, heartworms can still be life threatening and causes damage to the lungs and heart. Knowing whether or not your cat as heartworms can help our veterinarians determine the best course of action in keeping your cat as comfortable as possible should they develop symptoms.
